K., Dan Deacon, Liars and No Age, along with dozens of Mexican groups, among them Chikita Violenta, Los Fancy Free, Quiero Club and XYX will rock-out on staggered sets perched on the side of a mountain in the Sierra Madre Oriental.

MtyMx was put together in Brooklyn by Todd Patrick, better known as Todd P., an underground music tastemaker who's widely credited with helping to develop the New York indie-rock scene over the last half-decade. He teamed up with promoter Yo Garage, his like-minded counterpart in Monterrey, and purposefully scheduled MtyMx around the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Tex., which begins March 17. The pair even chartered buses to ferry bands and fans on the seven-hour trip from Austin. As a regular visitor to Mexico and Latin America, Patrick wanted to offer bands a foreign alternative for their post-SXSW tours, one which thousands of young Mexican fans, who would typically have trouble getting visas to enter the U.S. to hear them perform, could benefit from.

The festival includes a substantial visual art element as well, with the perimeter of the space decorated by huge original murals and projected video pieces on the drive-in screen by such artists as Stephanie Davidson, Sumi Ink Club, Jesse Spears, Katja Mater, and JD Beltran. Known by some as the Seattle of Latin Alternative music, Monterrey, went from being the hub of grupero music a decade ago, to becoming a hotbed for cutting edge indie acts ranging from rock to hip-hop to fusions not easily classified. Monterrey is home to bands such as Kinky, Control Machete, and Plastilina Mosh.
She originally debuted in 2007 with an album that received lukewarm praise, causing her to return to modeling. Now she is at it again with a new sound reminiscent of JPOP and 90s techno.

She first attracted attention as a model appearing next to actor Jung Woo Sung in a GUESS ad--her nickname was "Jung Woo Sung's girlfriend." But JJ does not fit the typical female idol mold. Her lean supermodel frame of 170cm is striking, but not the perky teenage package most idol stars come in. It will be interesting to see how JJ's fashion model looks will aid or detract the public's reception. Can the siren sing? You can check out the music video of her title track 'More and More' after the jump.

It seems like he will keep his English-language listeners hanging a bit longer as he has announced a new album, in Spanish.

The singer has not released original material since 'Valio La Pena,' over six years ago. He did however, released the soundtrack of 'El Cantante,' made of covers by legend Hector Lavoe. In the film, he played the role of Lavoe and shared acting credits with his wife. More recently, his name has reached the charts due to his collaborations with La Quinta Estacion and J-LO's Spanish-language album 'Como Ama Una Mujer.'

Anthony is known as both, a Latin Pop balladeer and Salsa's most prominent singer. The new album is said to combine both genres and to many of his fans' discontent, it will be a covers album. Some of the artists he will be covering include Spanish composer Jose Luis Perales and Mexico's Juan Gabriel and Jose Jose.
Her U.S. debut album, '1977' (Nacional Records) has generated a good amount of buzz and is now available early at iTunes. The disc will be released everywhere on April 27. Often regarded as one of the top female MCs in Latin America, Tijoux has been nominated by the MTV Latin America VMAs for Best New Artist and Best Urban Artist in recent years.

Tijoux was born in France to a French mother and a Chilean father in political exile during Pinochet's dictatorship. After the return to democracy, the family moved back to Chile, where Tijoux eventually fell in with Santiago's emerging hip-hop scene. She first started rhyming in French, then later in Spanish and cut her teeth as a young rapper fronting the popular Chilean hip- hop troupe Makiza, renowned for their socially conscious lyrics and dynamic production. As a solo artist, Tijoux began developing a distinct voice that attracted the attention of some notable Latin American musical heavyweights.

She has been featured on tracks by Argentine electronic-tango collective Bajofondo, Mexican hip-hop icons Control Machete and Chilean beat master DJ Bitman. But it was her collaboration with Mexican alternative rock star Julieta Venegas on the track, 'Eres Para Mi,' which widened Tijoux's exposure to a mainstream audience. The song became a TV and radio hit across Latin America and the U.S.

On the autobiographical '1977,' Tijoux anchors her jazzy vocals with intelligent lyrics and, trippy, hynoptic beats. The album, named after the year of her birth, is a nostalgic look to the past entrenched in her childhood in France and the early 90s era of hip-hop that influenced her as a teenager in Chile. Recorded between May and September 2009, '1977' was produced by a trio of some of the best sound gurus Santiago has to offer: Hordatoj, Foex and Tee. The album features some special guests, including acclaimed Detroit-based MC Invincible on a virtual Myspace collaboration for 'Sube' and Solo Di Medina on the French track 'Ooh La La.'
The 24 year old is the daughter of renowned movie director Fernando Sariñana and novelist Carolina Rivera. Ximena became well-known at age 10 for her role in 'Luz Clarita,' one of the landmark Telenovelas. She went on to build a successful acting career in Mexican films, but what brought her to stardom was her dazzling jazzy voice and smart, edgy lyrics. Her debut album 'Mediocre' received universal critical acclaim and earned her two Latin Grammy nominations.

For her sophomore album, Ximena has decided to take risks. The album to be released later this year is being produced in Los Angeles by her boyfriend Omar Rodriguez Lopez, member of The Mars Volta. The singer had previously worked with Uruguayan producer Juan Campodonico and Argentina's top pop producer Tweety Gonzalez, achieving clever and elegant music. Rodriguez Lopez will take her to new territories, mostly within rock and roll.

In the meantime, Ximena has appeared in three albums by Rodriguez Lopez, giving us hints of what to expect from her upcoming album. But it doesn't seem like Sariñana has lost the innocent spark she is well known for. Recently, she gave the lead voice for the Spanish dubbed version of 'Coraline,' collaborated with Jason Mraz and was featured on the Latin American soundtrack edition of 'Twilight New Moon.'
According to MusicActu, the opus should be ready by either the end of 2010, or the beginning of 2011. In an interview with Le Parisien newspaper, Dion's husband, René Angelil, said that his wife hopes to once again collaborate with Jean-Jacques Goldman, who has produced several of her past albums.

In addition to her studio work, Dion plans to release a new DVD on April 26, titled 'Celine Dion: Autour du Monde.' The documentary will reportedly feature concert footage from her world tour that took place in 2008 and 2009. She also plans to once again perform a series of shows in Las Vegas, where she performed for extended periods in 2003 and 2007. Her latest set of shows will kick off on March 15, 2011.

"What can I say about Akon, other than the fact that he is a creative soul," said Tanya. "I have been his huge fan, and now I have joined hands with Aadesh and him to work on more music and events. He is such a big star, yet, so down-to-earth, and open to creative ideas."
Civil tension has been high in Israel for musicians such as Elton John and the Pixies, who are scheduled to perform in Israel over the coming months. Bands and musicians have been receiving letters from various local peace organizations asking them not to perform in this "apartheid state."

"As much as some of us are huge fans and would love to hear your show, we won't cross the international picket line," states one open letter to the Pixies. "Are you prepared to perform in Tel-Aviv while just under your noses millions of human beings are suffering under a cruel Israeli military regime?"

Other artists that have been targeted by various organizations, albeit for varying reasons, include Paul McCartney, Leonard Cohen, Roger Waters and Carlos Santana.
They transformed from cheerful teenage confection (remember their 2nd album, 'Oh!'?) to sleek, chic femme fatales. Their latest evolution of new hairdos and the black and white costume swap jazz up the video visually--the latter evoking Kara's 'Lupin.' But back to the music, a highlight of the new single is that it is not saturated with autotune, which has been the trend among recent KPOP hits. Fans have differing opinions on whether this electronic technology strengthens or weakens KPOP. The team who scored the single include Bushee, Alex James of Blur and Kalle Engstrom, among others.
Calling it "very ambitious," Gondry described the endeavor as a "40-minute IMAX project in 3D." According to The Guardian, the project will be a "scientific musical" film, to be screened in museums.

Gondry and Björk, of course, have a pretty lengthy artistic history together. The director best known for his imaginative and visually stunning music video productions, has already directed seven videos for Björk's music, including spots for her singles 'Army of Me,' and 'Joga.' While casting for his 2006 feature length film 'The Science of Sleep,' Gondry initially offered the starring role to the Icelandic singer, who turned it down (ultimately, the role went to Charlotte Gainsbourg). According to HitFix, Björk is also currently working on an orchestral piece of her own, although it's not yet clear whether or not it's part of her collaboration with Gondry.
Latin America's current top pop stars Juanes and Shakira have been officially announced as performers at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 opening concert. The two Colombian singers will join Alicia Keys, John Legend, Angélique Kidjo, The Black Eyed Peas and Amadou & Miriam as the first line of performers at the event to be celebrated in South Africa on June 10. The kick-off ceremony will take place at the Orlando Stadium in front of 30,000 attendees.

The concert will be televised to the world and is known for its sky-scraping ratings, something obvious considering Soccer is the world's most popular sport. Although the Colombian team didn't qualify for the competition, Shakira and Juanes will serve as the Latino representatives that will contribute to the effort of unifying the world through music and the sport. It will be a new experience for Juanes, but not so much for Shakira. She actually performed her hit 'Hips Don't Lie' featuring Wyclef Jean four years ago at 2006's Germany World Cup finale.
This release accompanies this five piece band's first U.S. performance since their 2003 debut. Their concert will also be located at the April 2-4 event.

The 8-song CD will first be on sale at the JapanFiles booth, and will also be available at the concert and autograph sessions.

The U.S. release of 'To The Next' actually comes one month before the Japanese release.
The investigation questioned two things: First, did his performance violate the child protection law? Second, was he guilty of performing banned songs, 'Korean Dream,' 'She's Gone,' and a banned album, 'Heartbreaker?'

Authorities decided that the steamy bedroom skit that took place during the song, 'Breathe,' was dramatizing the song's content accurately. Plus, G-Dragon was only following the management agency's plans. And it was only a two-minute scene in a 2 hour performance. As for the second issue of the banned songs, since his concert was not rated to begin with, G-Dragon was technically allowed to include them and even push the envelope, or in this case, the bedpost some more.

G-Dragon was almost in the clear, as he still owed a fine of 3 million won, which is $2,600 US dollars. YG Entertainment assured the public, "[The issue] didn't go to court or anything so we consider it basically a pre-trial disposition." The unedited version of his concert in DVD will be sold to customers over 18-years-old.
The Colombian singer reached fame with his hit 'Te Mando Flores,' for which he was awarded the Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Song in 2006. He is known as one of the artists that have popularized Tropipop, a subgenre that has quickly become the second most popular Tropical sound just after Bachata.

Fonseca is profoundly influenced by fellow Colombian artists Juanes and Carlos Vives, and while he has yet to reach that level of recognition, one of his dreams is now a reality; collaborating with the legendary singer-trombonist Willie Colón. They have teamed up in 'Estar Lejos,' one of the two unreleased songs in 'Gratitud''s special edition.

This edition also includes three acoustic versions of his singles 'Arroyito,' 'Gratitud' and 'Sabre Olvidar.' Although 'Estar Lejos' was only designed to hit Colombian radio stations, the collaboration has sparked international attention causing his label to plan a possible U.S. release. The duo teamed up recently to shoot the video in Colón's native New York.

Watch the video 'Estar Lejos' after the jump.

The album, which will officially hit stores on May 19, is expected to be Marley's first widely-released album since his sensational 'Welcome to Jamrock' tore up global reggae charts and radiowaves back in 2005. While fans have, over the course of the past few months, been frustrated with the prolonged delay of the album's release, Marley maintains that "At the end of the day, [my philosophy] has always been to put stuff out when it's ready, 'cause I don't believe in puttin' out music that I'm not satisfied with, or I don't think has reached its potential in terms of the creative process."

As we reported last week, the album not only has Nas' fingerprints all over it, but also features cameos from the likes of Lil Wayne, Joss Stone, K'Naan, and reggae legend Dennis Brown. The name drawing the most attention, though, is undoubtedly Wayne's, who's been in the news a lot recently, thanks to his recent imprisonment. When discussing what Lil Wayne's voice brought to the record, Marley expressed his hope that the contemporary rap icon will draw in a younger generation of hip hop fans. "It's funny, because the track is called 'My Generation,'" Marley said. "It's definitely geared towards that. [Lil] Wayne really showed a lot of respect in his verse, in the way that he handled it. He handled it exactly would've really loved him to. I don't have any criticism at all about what he did. I think it's a great and blessed track. That's all I can really say about that."

As for all the rumors that have been swirling about tracklists and officially released singles, Marley says, perhaps surprisingly, that "the tracklisting hasn't really changed that much in the months," adding that "it's more-so that there's been some inaccurate listings that people have put on the 'net." He admitted, though, that the sequencing has undergone a few revisions during the recording process. "That is a matter of trying to make the album a long-listener, where you can put it in, hear from top, and just play straight through. So it goes off of feel; you don't want to have too many slow tracks back-to-back or too many fast ones back-to-back for that matter. I just try to make sure that the album feels good throughout."

The 12-chapter, 363-page book, 'Furacão Elis,' will be housed permanently at the site and will be available to readers for free. The book will also include a complete discography.

Researched and authored by Regina Echeverria, the book was originally published in Brazil in 1985, three years after Elis Regina's death from a drug and alcohol overdose at the age of 36. The English translation was undertaken by Canadian Robert St. Louis in the '90s. Regina first gained popularity in Brazil in the early 1960s and, along with Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and others, was considered a pioneer of the tropicalismo or Tropicália movement. Her 1974 recording 'Elis & Tom,' a collaboration with Antonio Carlos Jobim, is considered one of the essential Brazilian bossa nova albums.
