Not long after his album 'Two Sides of My Heart Vol. 1' won Album of the Year honors at this year's EME Awards in Jamaica, Morgan is reportedly back in the studio, hard at work on a new album, tentatively titled '2 Sides of My Heart Vol. 2.' The album, which the Jamaica Observer describes as having a distinctly "Country and R&B" sound, isn't due out until later this year, but judging by the all-star lineup that Morgan has assembled for the CD, it'll definitely be intriguing. According to the Observer, Gramps has enlisted both Ziggy Marley and Musiq (Soulchild) to collaborate on a few tracks, as well as Willie Lat and Shannon Sanders, who will help produce the album.

Gramps' solo album isn't the only thing on his plate, though. He's also working with his siblings on a new Morgan Heritage album, as well as collaborating with his father, Denroy Morgan, on a soon to be released autobiography. Apparently, he's also cooking up a film project of some sort, as he revealed to the Observer. Said Morgan, "Right now I am multi-tasking on various projects which is something I am completely at home with. I am working on a special project for Disney and looking forward to doing some stuff on the big screen which will be coming soon."
The Wonder Girls are the first successful Korean female idol group to break into the U.S. Market. So it only makes sense that after watching the phenomenal success of their brainchild, JYP Entertainment has announced this past January that they will be debuting a new girl group. This time the group will be a mix of Chinese and Korean members--basically a Chinese version of the Wonder Girls--who will tour the Chinese-speaking world. ALLKPOP reported that the last member of the Chinese Wonder Girls will be chosen from an open audition online. Starting yesterday (March 10), they began receiving video auditions from women born between 1987 to 1996 on Daum tvPot. Those who make the cut from this online pool will be invited to audition in person at the JYP Center on April 4. This online selection process was first used in 2006, when JYPE found YeEun, who later became the 5th member of the original Wonder Girls.
The officers noticed stacks of pirated CDs in his car and arrested him on the spot. The speeding ticket turned into six counts each of manufacturing and possession of pirated music.

Dimititijevic later admitted to receiving the music from his parents in Serbia and that he had not paid royalties on the burned CDs. After pleading not guilty to the initial charges, believing that Serbian composers were not protected by Australian copyright laws, this notion was refuted by the Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI), claiming that Serbian artists were indeed covered. Wagga magistrate Geoff Hiatt then handed Dimititijevic a $12,000 fine, a fraction of the severest penalty for copyright infringements in Australia: up to $60,500 and five years imprisonment for individuals, and nearly five times that, $302,500 for corporations.
This strange upbeat song has become a YouTube sensation and has quickly become the night club DJ's ultimate friend. The catchy track is already a hit across Latin America and has brought a spotlight on Caribbean newcomers Black Point and Del Patio.

Recently, the renowned Mexican DJ Toy Selectah remixed the song, giving it a big boost on the Internet, but it's enjoying heavy rotation across U.S. radio stations thanks to a little help from Pitbull and long-time pal Lil' Jon. The single could end up in huge success a la 'I Know You Want Me,' and it also marks the Latin Urban shift to a more electronic sound, moving away from the Reggaeton that dominated Latin music a few years ago.

The song is extremely likeable, but what does 'Watagatapitusberry' mean? Well, it has double meaning. One on side it's a nice bubbly song about the effects of the Blackberry, on the other side, it's an extremely sexual song. Although, we could refer to it as a result of Spanglish culture, specifically the clash between Dominican and Americans.
With French legend Charles Aznavour presiding over the Parisian ceremony, the best in contemporary French music were all honored for their work throughout the past year, while one legendary American was honored for a lifetime of groundbreaking creativity.

As MusicActu reports, Benjamin Biolay was the big winner on the men's side, taking home honors for male artist of the year, as well as album of the year for his appropriately titled 'La Superbe.' Meanwhile, Olivia Ruiz stole the show for the women, winning both female artist of the year and video of the year awards. The honoree of the night, though, was unquestionably Stevie Wonder, who was on hand to receive a lifetime achievement award, known as the 'Victoire d'honneur.' Wonder also performed a medley of some of his best known hits onstage, proving once more that however legendary his career may be, it's far from over.
Later on in his career his style shifted from rock-oriented to a more adult pop sound, and he began singing in English and French in addition to Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. There's no better place to celebrate world music at a crossroads than at the annual Heineken TransAtlantic Festival in Miami Beach. Created by the Rhythm Foundation, Miami's leading world music presenter, and now in its eighth year, the festival has put Miami on the map as a venerable world music epicenter. This year's lineup drives that message home, featuring acts that reflect a city that has gone from being the gateway to Latin America to being at the center of a whole new generation of global music and sonic cross-pollination. For two days, April 9 and 24, the North Beach Bandshell will become a microcosm of music that reflects the city's eclectic soul and cultural cross-currents. One of Nacional Records' most explosive live acts, Colombian outfit Bomba Estéreo will take the stage this year, as will Brazil's Orquestra Contemporanea de Olinda, Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré, and Miami's locally-bred Locos Por Juana.

Bomba Estéreo processes cumbia and champeta through a dance-fusion filter of electronic dub and hip-hop. From Brazil's northeastern state of Pernambuco, the Orquestra Contemporanea de Olinda, nominated for a Latin Grammy for best tropical Brazilian roots album in 2009, make their U.S. tour debut this spring, with stops in Austin's SXSW and the Lincoln Center. Comprised of young musicians who are carrying the torch of the late, great mangue beat master Chico Science, OCO's musical mayhem is a groove-fueled fusion of frevo and forro with drum-n-bass, rock and world rhythms. Vieux Farka Touré, the son of the late, great Malian desert blues guitarist Ali Farka Touré, presents his own unconventional brew; a musical landscape where everything from jam band music to Jamaican dub is anchored by western Saharan roots. For their part, the two-time, Latin Grammy-nominated Locos Por Juana embody the polyrhythmic hybridity of the city that's nurtured them. There's is a funky, pan-Latin amalgam of rock-steady beats, laid-back reggae grooves punctuated by biting social commentary and spitfire raps backed by brass-fueled solos.
Other people, though, think metal. And while a quality metal music festival can be hard to come by during a summer chock-full of pop and indie events, one of the most renowned events for die-hard metal fans is the Stockholm Rock Out Festival. The event never fails to bring out the most enticing names in metal history, and 2010 is certainly no different. Performers at this year's Stockholm Rock Out Festival include Great White, KIX, Slaughter, and Vains of Jenna, to name just a few. The event's scheduled for April 30 and May 1, and if you're interested in tickets, check out their website. SNSD got nominated for Song of the Year and Top Dance and Electronic Song categories for 'Gee.' They also got recognized with nominations for Top Pop Song with 'Tell Me Your Wish.' Meanwhile, Brown Eyed Girls' 'Abracadabra' received the same nomination for Song of the Year and Top Dance and Electronic Song and their 'Sound G.' album got a nod for Top Dance and Electronic Album.

SNSD and Brown Eyed Girls' nominated hits, 'Gee,' 'Tell Me Your Wish,' and 'Abracadra,' led the girl group craze last year, as both are strong contenders for the awards.

Also in the spotlight are 2NE1 and Kara, girl groups who received two nominations a piece. 2NE1 have been nominated for Rookie of the Year, while Kara's 'Mister' got nominated for Top Pop Song. All 4 girl groups, 2NE1, Kara, SNSD and Brown Eyed Girls, will battle it out for the title of Netizen Picked Music Group of the Year.

Out of all the artists, Korean female singer Lee So-ra has the most nominations with 5. As for the boy groups, SHINee has one nomination for Top Pop Song with 'Ring Ding Dong,' according to ALLKPOP.

The Korean Music Awards are given to works that have been released between November 11, 2008 and November 30, 2009. The selection committee of 60 music judges must select winners for 25 categories. The results will be announced on March 30 at Platoon Kunstehalle.
Guitarist and vocalist Thanos Goutanos traveled to Istanbul to study music, and was so inspired by what he saw that he returned to Greece to found the Baildsa Band, which is heavily indebted to the Gyspy sounds he found across the Arabian Sea. He now pays tribute to the entire Balkan region, of which traditional Turkish rhythms are heavily influential.

"Greek and Turkish music have very common things, but now I see them from a different point of view," Goutanos told Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review in a feature article on the Turkish influence on Greek musicians. "I now play like Turkish people do."

The cross-cultural exchange is not limited to Turkish musicians influencing Greek artists. There is a rembetika revival in Istanbul as well, as artists such as Tatavla Keyfi, Laterna, and Kafe Aman Istanbul are helping promote the classic sound of Greek folk music, albeit with an, at times, electric sound.
Plans are reportedly underway to unveil a brand new music museum next year in Jamaica, in an effort to further memorialize the island's rich artistic culture, and, most notably, the reggae genre born there. Officially titled the Jamaica Music Museum, the museum will be located in Kingston, and will apparently feature a number of rare artifacts, including archived Bob Marley recordings, as well as a cassette tape featuring Peter Tosh jamming with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of Rolling Stones fame.

The curator of the museum, in fact, is none other than Herbie Miller, who was once Tosh's manager. While the space already boasts a pretty impressive collection, curators and musical historians are still reeling from the huge loss that Jamaican music took two years ago, when a massive collection of original 1970s recordings were lost from the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation. Many of the recordings featured original Tosh and Marley recordings, but they have still not been recovered.

The Jamaica Music Museum is currently asking for donations to help fund the museum, which will be run by the government via the culturally oriented Institute of Jamaica. Miller, however, did not specify a date for the museum's official opening.
The band has lead Spain's indie scene for almost 20 years, struggling to internationalize despite their transnational distributing deals with Sony Music. But the recent boom in the Spanish-language indie scene has centralized Los Planetas as one of the essential bands of its region.

Now they have announced the release of 'Opera Egipcia,' the 10th studio album in their career and follow-up to their 2007 classic 'La Leyenda del Espacio.' It will hit Spain's stores next month and will slowly make its way to Latin America and the U.S. One of the things that makes Los Planetas so interesting is their ability to blend Spain's folklore into their complex rock songs, and the new album incorporates Flamenco's sound and themes, something that will only reinforce the band's obscure sound.

The first single off the album is 'No Se Como Te Atreves,' a collaboration featuring La Bien Querida. This collaboration has sparked incredible buzz around the web, particularly for La Bien Querida who is nowadays, Spain's most engaging female pop singer. Los Planetas will perform at the Sounds From Spain showcase at SXSW, and have been named one of the headliners at MtyMx 2010.
Aguayo's skills with electronic rhythms and vocal diversity have profiled him as one of the most anticipated artists at this year's SXSW. 'Ay Ay Ay' is particularly appealing for combining traditional Latin music with contemporary techno music.

The Chilean-born artist has maintained an international career due to his strong ties to Germany (where he was raised) and his current home in Argentina. Recently, he created the label Comeme, an effort to distribute and showcase some of Latin America's most talented electronic acts including Argentina's DJs Pareja and Mexico's Rebolledo.

The 37 year old musician has just premiered his first video for the single 'Rollerskate,' a hypnotic visual fest that shows Aguayo's strange personality and peculiar vision. Aside from his May 19 performance at SXSW, he is currently on a minitour across the U.S.
She will perform a seventh date in Canada. Released in Portugal last October, 'Leva-me Aos Fados' ('Take Me To A Fado House'/ World Village), is Moura's fourth album in a career that started off in an unorthodox manner for a fadista and which has nonetheless paved the way for Moura to emerge as one of the music's leading contemporary exponents. Moura belongs to a new generation of female fado singers who have exported Portugal's 200-year-old bittersweet musical tradition out of the fado house and onto the world stage. The seventeen-track 'Leva-me Aos Fados' has already gone platinum, with 200,000 units sold in Portugal.

Ironically, Moura got her start in music as a pop-rock singer. She became a fado singer on a lark when a chance encounter with several musicians at a bar led to an invitation to sing a fado, which in turn resulted in her being discovered by Jorge Fernando, the guitarist of the late 'Queen of Fado,' Amália Rodrigues. Moura stands out for her smoky alto and for opening herself to being inspired in the moment. She's known for her habit of choosing songs to perform at the last minute, just as she takes the stage. it's this kind of spontaneity, Moura says, that allows her to really feel and express emotion through music. Moura, who's influenced by a range of artists, including Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye, amongst others, has also retained some of her rock 'n' roll streak. Back in 2007 Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and other members of the Rolling Stones dropped in at the renowned fado house Casa de Linhares to witness Moura perform. She ended up performing with the Stones at one of their concerts and later collaborated on adapted versions of Stones classics 'Brown Sugar' and 'No Expectations' for an album of Stones songs. Moura's extraordinary voice and rising fame even caught the attention of pop icon Prince, who went to hear her perform in Paris and indicated an interest in collaborating with her. Moura will be performing music from her new album during her Stateside concerts.
Originally known as 'Monsters of Rock,' the festival first became a real destination for big name bands in 1981, when AC/DC graced the stage. At this year's Download Festival 2010, the same group that helped kick start the Donington, UK festival will return, along with countless big names from today and yesterday. Aerosmith, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots and Them Crooked Vultures are only a few of the acts slated to appear at this year's festivities, which will be held between June 11th and 13th in its traditional Donington Park location. If you're interested in purchasing tickets and campsite passes, you can buy them online here.
