Shreya Stresses Education To Indian Youth

Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal recently discussed her personal life and ascent to fame with the Times of India, and though she says she was fortunate to arrive at the life of luxury that she leads today, she doesn't think the Indian youth of today should follow her lead. Stressing a healthy balance between school and music, Shreya spoke to reporters while on location in Jaipur to screen auditions for an upcoming reality show. "A lot of budding singers who came for the auditions today were hardly 18 to 20 year olds," she said. "Though I started very early, I wouldn't like them to follow my example. It is not the time to get into music but learn as much as one can and complete one's education because one's grasping power is at its peak. One must make the most of it, instead of getting commercial mileage out of music." She says that she was lucky to have an educated family that helped her balance the two, but realizes that not everyone has that. Hoping that young people don't confuse her exceptional case for the norm, Ghoshal is clearly trying to inject a grounded sense of reality in a Bollywood industry that can sometimes have young kids seeing stars.

Remo Fernandes Discusses State of Bollywood

After the release of his newest video, 'India I Cry,' musician Remo Fernandes discussed his recent work and, most interestingly, his thoughts on Bollywood, in a recent interview with the Times of India. The new video, which you can see here, was written, directed and edited entirely by Fernandes, and seems to be an attempt at a wake-up call to the country, the former "spiritual flower" turned "starving nuclear power." When asked about Bollywood, the world renowned flute player had a similarly despondent view. As he puts it, Bollywood is just a "sidelight" for his career. He's composed pieces for a few films, but now, apparently, feels as if the industry has started to stifle creativity. For him, "Bollywood doesn't appreciate originality," and only encourages all of India's best talent to imitate each other and fit into a specific musical form.

Lucky Ali Dishes on New Album

Bollywood actor and musician Lucky Ali is due to release a new album soon, after a lengthy 5 year hiatus from the recording studio. In a revealing interview with The Times of India, Ali talks very candidly about his personal struggles with drugs, relationships, and about being "burdened by expectations" that people have of him. In addition to his own upcoming album, titled 'Xsuie,' Ali has a new movie coming out next month, called 'Rock Shock,' starring Sonali Kulkami.

Sonu Nigaam Unveils New Single at Mumbai Ceremony

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigaam released his new single last week as a show of support and remembrance for the November 26 terrorist attacks that plagued Mumbai last year. The song, 'Ungli uthe to, koi bare to, kardegi bagawat Mumbai' was composed exclusively for the one-year anniversary of the attacks, and features 15 singers, including film icon Amitabh Bachchan, who voices the opening lines. As Nigaam said, "I composed this anthem because I thought if this has come my way, there must be some good reason behind it."

Bollywood Commemorates Mumbai Attack Anniversary

As the one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Taj Hotel in Mumbai nears, some of the biggest names in Bollywood are preparing to commemorate the event and memorialize the victims. While numerous actors and filmmakers are doing their own cinematic projects, musicians are making their voices heard, as well. As we reported the other day, Shibani Kashyap has released her own personal tribute video called 'Alvida,' and Karan Johar is also scheduled to release his own video in remembrance of the November 26 attacks. Making appearances in Johar's video are big screen stars like Yash Chopra, Ajay Devgn, Farhan Akhtar and Ramesh Taurani, among others.

The Bollywood music community has also organized a massive concert to be held in Mumbai, where 15 musicians will gather to sing a specially composed anthem. The event, started as a Mumbai police initiative, will feature Sonu Niigaam, Shaan, Kailash Kher, Roop Kumar Rathod, Hariharan, Jagjit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz, Alka Yagnik, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Kunal Ganjawala and Richa Sharma.

Sonu Niigaam Coming to US?

The Times of India speculates today that Sonu Niigaam, Bollywood's hottest playback singer, might soon be re-locating to the US. Rumors have been swirling all over India about Niigaam searching for a New York apartment, and though the singer's been mum about any real estate gossip, he did acknowledge that he's spent considerable time in the US working on various projects and concerts over the past year. A recent trip to New York even included a meeting with legendary TV personality Larry King, who invited Niigaam to his home. King's wife, country music singer Shawn King, facilitated the meeting, which left Niigaam inspired. He said he not only plans to get more involved with the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping the uninsured pay for cardiac treatment, but he also wants to personally show King around India. Could a move to the US be far behind?
