Mexican rocker Chetes reached the top of the iTunes' Latin Rock-Alternative charts today with his latest album 'Hipnosis.' Marking the third installment in his blossoming solo career, Chetes was the former leader of Zurdok, one of Mexico's strongest rock bands. Like any other vocalist going solo, he struggled to profile his own identity to the fans, but after two successful albums under his belt, the third installment sounds like a winner. Chetes describes the album as his most personal album yet. In response to critics rejecting his entrance to pop music, he commented, "I don't tag my music, I don't think of doing Rock or Pop, I only care about the quality." The Latin Grammy nominated singer wanted to have absolute control over his album, so he decided to join Mexican indie label MUN Records (Le Baron, Hello Seahorse!), snatching a distribution deal with EMI Music, who is handling the simultaneous release in both Mexico and the U.S.
Even though the first single 'Arena' may be the edgiest of his career, it is already a hit on Mexican radio. 'Hipnosis' contains 10 tracks and was recorded at his home in Monterrey. Listen to 'Arena' after the jump.
