Benicassim Festival 2010 Lineup

2010 Music Festival Guide

gorillazHeld every summer in the idyllic Valencian region of Spain, the Benicassim Festival has become one of the most celebrated summer gatherings for the world's top electronic and alternative artists. Since its maiden voyage in 1995, the event has grown in size and splendor each year, and now encompasses not only live music, but short film screenings, live theatre, and art and fashion exhibitions.

This summer, event organizers will be hoping to erase the unpleasant memories from last year's festival, during which a large fire that broke not far from the festival site forced the cancellation of some acts, and the evacuation of several hundred festival goers. Luckily, though, this year's lineup is full of big names and attractions, all of whom are sure to put their own, unique mark on the 2010 Benicassim Festival. As NME reported Thursday, Gorillaz will be headlining this year's event, alongside Lily Allen, Vampire Weekend, Hot Chip, and a host of other indie and electronic heavyweights. This year's festival is scheduled to get underway on July 15, and will wrap up on July 18. Fred Durst Says 2010 New Album is Inspired by Daft Punk

Fred Durst and Daft Punk

Fred Durst may have made a name for himself on the strength of Limp Bizkit's uniquely aggressive brand of heavy rock, but he's apparently undergone something of a metamorphosis in recent years, and is now set to unleash his new sound upon the world. Speaking to NYMag about Limp Bizkit's forthcoming comeback 'Gold Cobra' album, Durst said that he found a lot of inspiration from the music of French electro group Daft Punk. As he says of the group's sound, "The music definitely feels dance-y. There are deeper emotional songs; there are a lot of groovy, dance-y songs; and there are a couple that have a Daft Punk feel. We have one song -- and I don't know if it'll end up on the record -- that's definitely got a robot-rock vibe. I love that stuff. I love electronic music, and I love drum and bass. Daft Punk always seem to have their finger on the pulse."

Durst also mentioned that his personal life has calmed down in recent years, citing his newfound passion for golf, which, he admits, might sound strange to fans of the group's early, hardcore sound. "I get a lot of heat from the fans," Durst acknowledges. "They'll say things like, 'How can we take you seriously with Limp Bizkit when you're golfing?' And I just say, 'Well, one day you'll be golfing too.'"

Satanic Death Metal Group Watain Goes Gold in Sweden

Watain Reaping Death,Sweden is home to some of the world's most cutting edge indie and electronic rock. But amidst a forest of folksy, indie sounds, one satanic metal group has managed to make a name for themselves, and have now officially gone gold. As The Daily Swarm reports, the group Watain recently released an album titled 'Reaping Death,' which, after selling 10,000 CDs in just two weeks, has been certified gold by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

Lead singer Erik was characteristically meh about the whole thing, issuing the following statement: "No matter how awkward it feels to be a part of the materialistic record business, and even more so being rewarded by its filthy capitalistic measures, we will still accept this award with a poisoned smile. The same smile with which we have kissed your sons and daughters with 'Reaping Death.' We see this disc of gold as a trophy, a trophy of a successful hunt for their souls."

A unique victory speech, to say the least, but perhaps not entirely unsurprising, considering that Watain describes itself as a group that builds "upon the stage a temple of panic, chaos, magic and death, showing to the audience the true, ugly face of the horrible abomination that is Black Metal."

Sizzla to Settle in Zimbabwe?

SIzzlaAfter he recently appeared at Robert Mugabe's birthday celebration, Jamaican dancehall star Sizzla was reportedly given a large plot of land in Chegutu as part of his reward. According to the ZimDaily, the artist is now intent on settling there, and using the land to build a youth development center. He also says he'll set up agro-industries for Zimbabwe's youth.

It's also worth mentioning that Sizzla is currently wanted in his native Jamaica on weapon charges, which has led many in Zimbabwe to question whether or not he should be allowed free settlement. The ZimDaily also points out that many have cited Sizzla's case as another example of the government's inconsistent policy of issuing work permits to immigrants. Apparently, Sizzla's papers were filed and he received his permit in record time.

Justin Bieber, Sean Kingston Debut New 'Eenie Meenie' Video

Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston

One is a teen heartthrob. The other, a Jamaica-raised reggae fusion artist. Now, both Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston have joined forces to put together a brand new music video for their single, 'Eenie Meenie.' The duo officially released the collaborative clip last week, and, according to JSYK, the video revolves around a saucy brunette that threatens to tear the two friends apart. Ultimately, though, the two decide that it's not worth jeopardizing their friendship over a girl, and they collectively decide to give her the boot.

The entire scenario plays out against the backdrop of a weekend party, where the aforementioned brunette flirts with Kingston, before leaving him high and dry on the balcony. When she goes back inside, she spots the 16-year old Bieber, and heavy flirting ensues. Once the two singers realize what's going on, they eventually decide to cut her loose, and go back to partying.
