Held every summer in the idyllic Valencian region of Spain, the Benicassim Festival has become one of the most celebrated summer gatherings for the world's top electronic and alternative artists. Since its maiden voyage in 1995, the event has grown in size and splendor each year, and now encompasses not only live music, but short film screenings, live theatre, and art and fashion exhibitions. This summer, event organizers will be hoping to erase the unpleasant memories from last year's festival, during which a large fire that broke not far from the festival site forced the cancellation of some acts, and the evacuation of several hundred festival goers. Luckily, though, this year's lineup is full of big names and attractions, all of whom are sure to put their own, unique mark on the 2010 Benicassim Festival. As NME reported Thursday, Gorillaz will be headlining this year's event, alongside Lily Allen, Vampire Weekend, Hot Chip, and a host of other indie and electronic heavyweights. This year's festival is scheduled to get underway on July 15, and will wrap up on July 18.
