Music Bloggers and Rock En Español lovers are at the edge of their seats regarding Calle 13's long-anticipated return to Vive Latino. In 2007, two years after their self-titled album brought them to fame, the Puerto Rican duo was controversially invited to the festival. Until that moment, Calle 13 was seen as just another Reggaeton act, something the general public of Vive Latino rejects deeply. The band comprised of brothers Residente and Visitante had the most controversial performance in the festival's history, with a big section of the public booing and even throwing bottles and objects to the stage.
Three years later and with three albums under their arm, Calle 13 hopes to rewrite history, and prove their alternative urban sound merits a comeback. In fact, they have been booked to perform on Sunday at Escenario Verde, Vive's main stage. It was sad to see Vive's public reaction to something as extraordinary as 'Atrevete Te Te!,' but Calle 13's image has changed in many ways since their last performance. Starting with the fact that they collaborated with Café Tacvba in the Latin Grammy Record of the Year winning song 'No Hay Nadie Como Tu.' The band has also collaborated with some of Vive's most acclaimed performers such as Bajofondo Tango Club, Vicentico and La Mala Rodriguez.
While practically no one is expecting another disastrous performance, Calle 13's return to Vive Latino is a triumph and of crucial importance for other acts like Tego Calderon and Arcangel who deserve a spot at the festival's lineup.
