AR Rahman Reveals Highlights of Upcoming World Tour

AR Rahman tour

In preparation for his ambitious Jai Ho Concert world tour this summer, Grammy-winning Bollywood composer AR Rahman held a press conference at midtown Manhattan Indian restaurant Bombay Palace on April 19. Kicking off the tour at The Nassau Coliseum on June 11, the tour will end up at London's famed Wembley Arena on July 25. Traveling with a crew of 75 people, which includes 23 musicians, the tour is named after Rahman's uber-hit, 'Jai Ho,' from the 'Slumdog Millionaire' soundtrack.

"We're trying to take the entertainment process to the next level," Rahman stated at the event. He hopes the show will encompass the "very soul of India," which somehow includes lot of acrobatics and LED screen imagery.

"From the myths of the rural India to the colors of the festivity, to the rhythm and beats of the urban culture, this musical concert has it all," stated producer Deepak Gattani. "With technologically advanced theatrical treatment, Rahman will take us on a colorful musical journey of India, which will be a heartfelt experience for the world audience."

Working with the creative director behind tours by the likes of Mariah Carey and Britney Spears, Rahman hopes that Amy Tinkham will help bring a western edge to the production. "Through the vast tapestry of music that is A.R. Rahman," Tinkham said, "he takes us on a virtual journey through beauty, culture and spirituality. This is uniquely Indian -- both ancient and modern."
