Sean Kingston, Sean Paul Look to Reverse Trend at MTV Japan VMAs

sean kingstonIn the history of MTV Japan's Video Music Awards (VMA), only Japanese artists have won the award for Best Reggae Video. On May 29, though, both Sean Kingston and Sean Paul will look to reverse that jinx when the curtain rises on the eighth annual MTV Japan VMAs. As the Jamaica Observer reports, both artists have been nominated for awards in the reggae video category, marking the second nomination for Kingston, and third for Paul.

In 2008, Mavado was nominated for his single 'Dreaming,' marking the only other time that a Jamaican born or bred artist earned a nod. Kingston earned his nomination on the strength of his single 'Fire Burning,' off his album 'Tomorrow,' while Paul is up for his video 'So Fine,' from his 'Imperial Blaze' record. The other nominees in the category include Pushim for her 'My Endless Love,' and fellow Japanese reggae artist Ryo the Skywalker, for 'Kokoni Aru Ima wo Tomoni Aruki Dasou.'
