Buju Banton's Trial Delayed Once Again

Buju BantonAfter being initially detained in the U.S. on felony drug and firearm charges back in December, Buju Banton was scheduled to go before a court sometime in March. Eventually, the dancehall star's court date was pushed back to April 19. As the GoJamaica reports, however, that date has now been pushed back even further--and Buju's lawyers are none too happy about it.

In a court order released yesterday, the U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division decided that the high profile trial will now get underway on Monday, June 21. Buju's lawyers immediately demanded a status conference to discuss the trial date, as they believe that any further delay of the trial date would only put their client at a disadvantage. Attorney David Markus, who is representing Banton, said that the defense team had already laid the legal groundwork and preparation in anticipation of an earlier trial date. Now, Banton's legal claims says they'll go so far as to appeal for the transfer of the case to an entirely different judge, in the hopes of moving the trial date up.
