Music Banned from Somali Radio Stations in Act of Jihad Solidarity

In an effort to show their solidarity with the global jihadist movement, Somalia's Hizbu Islam has demanded that local music stations in Mogadishu cease broadcast of secular music. Hizbu Islam, one of the country's militant Islamist movements attempting to depose the Transitional Federal Government and replace it with one that operates under traditional Sharia law.

"It is against Islam to play music and other lyrics... We should have banned music right now but we want to give you 10 days so that you remove all music and melody containing cassettes," said Sheikh Moalim Hashi Mohamed, the movement's leader in Mogadishu.

This means that the only radio station that broadcasts music in the Somali capital will the the TFG's official station, which began re-broadcasting recently.
