After eight years of climbing to local stardom, Mexican rock band Zoe is hoping to conquest Spain's powerful market with a very special album. The band announced via Twitter, the release of '01-10', a compilation album to be edited in Spain in a few months. Zoe is currently promoting their Latin Grammy nominated album 'Reptilectric,' for which they had a recent Special Edition titled with remixes by international acts such as Sebastian Tellier, Nick McCarthy and Mad Professor, as well as Mexico's new indie sensations Hello Seahorse!, Bufi and Natalia Lafourcade. Zoe is probably Mexico's most important rock band just after Café Tacvba. Musically, they recall Radiohead and the British rock new wave, a sound that is unprecedented in Latin America. Despite their popularity, the band has rejected important transnational label deals to keep their music independent; instead, they scored a distribution deal with EMI Televisa which has expanded their popularity across the globe.
While Mexican radio has welcomed many of Spain's export bands, unless it's Julieta Venegas or Café Tacvba, Mexican bands are still struggling to get recognized in Spain. Although, Zoe almost entered Spain's market with their hits 'No Me Destruyas' and 'Via Lactea,' which earned them the Best Latin Breakthrough Award at Spain's top awards show Los Premios de la Musica. The new release '01-10' will be a compilation album recollecting their career's hits and will include new collaborations with Spain's renowned artists Enrique Bunbury, Vetusta Morla, Annie B. Sweet and Dorian.
