Those looking to hear Japanese artists at SXSW have it pretty easy this year, as most of the Japanese performers will be at one event, all performing in a row. Japan Nite kicks off March 19 at Elysium, and will feature seven bands over seven hours. Headlining the event is three-piece girl band Chatmonchy. The SXSW performance will mark the first time the band will play in the United States. Chatmonchy will join Omodaka, Red Bacteria Vacuum, OKAMOTO'S and JinnyOops! in a US tour following the event. This Japan Nite tour will hit New York, Cambridge, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles in shows running through March 27.
Be sure not to miss the odd man out, though. Tokyo-based indie rock band Caucus will be making their U.S. debut on Thursday night. The group may not be part of Japan Nite, but they should serve as a fine warm-up for the weekend.
