X Japan's Yoshiki Sues Production Company

X Japan

Music production company Nexstar Corporation entered a contract with Japanese band X Japan when they reunited two years ago. Under that deal, the band would receive 600 million yen in advance royalties and contract money, but no money has been paid so far. To make matters worse, Nexstar also sponsored X Japan's concerts over the past couple of years, but it turns out that the company never handed over any money from merchandise sales. In all, about 900 million yen ($9.9 million USD) remains unpaid.

X Japan leader Yoshiki has now filed a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against Nexstar, seeking approximately 375 million yen in damages. Yoshiki says that Nexstar has pulled in over 2.5 billion yen in ticket sales, so the company should have the money to pay up. GrooveAsia says that the group plans to file an additional claim for the 600 million yen in the initial contract should the case go to trial.
