Alex Cuba Wins Independent Music Award for Best World Music Artist

alex cubaOn March 13 Cuban-Canadian folk-funk rocker Alex Cuba won the 2010 Indie Award for Best World Music Artist. The 10th Annual Independent Music Awards, which honor achievements of Canadian and International artists in the independent music scene, were presented during Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Cuba, who co-wrote many of the songs in Nelly Furtado's recent Spanish-language album, 'Mi Plan,' and has collaborated with the likes of Jason Mraz and Ron Sexsmith, will release his self-titled, third album in the U.S. in June.

Released in Canada last October, it has already been nominated for a Juno Award, that country's equivalent of the Grammy. All three of Cuba's albums, released under his own label Caracol Records, now distributed by EMI Music Canada, have garnered the nomination. HIs previous two albums, 'Humo de Tabaco,' and 'Agua del Pozo,' took home the award. Cuba will kick-off a U.S. tour in New York City in early June; dates will be announced soon.
