Renowned American folk musician Josh Rouse is enjoying critical acclaim with his new album 'El Turista.' The charismatic singer takes on an ambitious album, one that feels far away from Tennessee and the alt-country sound for which he is known for. Rouse had previously included Spanish language songs in his 2006 album 'Subtitulo,' but the new album marks a significant and more serious shift to Latin rhythms.
The singer-songwriter has resided in Valencia Spain for the last five years, which explains his convincing Spanish language skills. Rouse's biggest influence for this album is the late Cuban composer Bola de Nieve, to whom he pays tribute in the tracks 'Duerme' and 'Mesie Julian.' Although the album isn't entirely in Spanish, the songs in English are in tune with the album's overall theme on Latin American expedition.
LA's KCRW recently selected the mesmerizing song 'Las Voces' as their "Top Tune of the Day," a song written by his wife and fellow musician Paz Suay. Not too many artists can crossover to Latin Music, but Josh Rouse is actually doing it.
