Outsider Releases New Album and Video, Where Music Meets Modern Philosophy

Vol. 2.5 The OutsiderKorean speed rap sensation Outsider released his new album, 'Vol. 2.5 The Outsider' on March 2. It features 7 tracks, 4 new songs and 3 bonuses, and also comes with a book containing the rapper's essays and his own photography. He told Asia Today that he wanted it to have a diary feel. This album release follows 'Maestro,' which was released about 9 months ago. Rather than to worry about whether this album will stand out like his last, Outsider is not focusing on the unknown but holding fast to his philosophy of being true to his vision, which is to present 'story music'--always material he feels connected to and hopes it will do the same for others.

Last year was a triumphant one for Outsider. His music competed against mainstream KPOP, which was and still is populated by idol groups. Even so, many Korean listeners, who were feeling pretty down due to the economy, took well to Outsider's voice and mood. Not only was his a timely arrival, his lyric writing skills and musical talent could be felt in his music. The rapper rose to the top of the music charts--winning recognition as a popular artist.

A keen listener to the voice of the common people, Outsider revealed to Asia Today that he "wanted to put in as honestly as possible the stories of people around [him]." On 'Vol. 2.5 The Outsider,' he features the stories of everyday people, who suffer from disconnection in this modern world. His goal was to break this silence that is plaguing the people and speak frankly about the collective wounds, loneliness, and emptiness.

The album's tracklist, and music video for the track 'Acquaintance,' can be seen after the jump.
