Shot at a Legion Hall in suburban Toronto with the theme of a post-wedding celebration, 'If You Give Me Love' is Alex Cuba's first-ever English song and video. The up-beat track is on the Canadian-based singer/songwriter's third album, which dropped in Canada in October. The eponymous solo disc, set to be released stateside in the Spring on Cuba's own label, Caracol, was recorded in Victoria and Havana. Cuba adds reggae to his brew of funk, rock, soul, and warm-toned ballads. This time around his songs and arrangements are geared more towards a pop-rock audience than his previous efforts. Since his arrival to British Columbia a decade ago, Cuba's career has steadily blossomed from his son-funk troubadour beginnings to that of a lean Latin pop act who's able to meld roots music with a gift for writing clever hooks and catchy melodies. The two-time Juno award winner (Canada's version of the Grammys), who hails from Artemisa, Cuba, recently co-wrote more than half of the songs on Nelly Furtado's recent Spanish pop album 'Mi Plan.' Last Spring he opened for top Latin alt, Colombian rockers Aterciopelados on their U.S. tour.
