Whitney Houston Responds to Critics of Australian Concert Tour

Whitney HoustonWith fans demanding refunds and many wondering aloud whether or not her subpar performance is due to a mysterious physical ailment, Whitney Houston's six-date tour in Australia hasn't exactly gone smoothly thus far. As Billboard reports, though, the oft-troubled singer says she thinks the tour's going just fine, and says the reception she's had from fans has been nothing but warm. As her publicist said in a statement, "Her fans were dancing and singing along with her and Whitney appreciates their support." Houston's handlers have also been quick to dismiss any rumors of health problems that might still be plaguing the 46-year old singer, claiming that "Whitney is in great health and having a terrific time on her tour and with her fans."

Following a February 22nd concert in Melbourne and February 24th's show in Sydney, fans in attendance didn't hesitate to express their disappointment with paying to see what they describe as a visibly exhausted and woefully off-key Houston. One disgruntled fan said that Whitney "barely finished any of her songs and talked more than she sang while trying to catch a breath, as well as stopping in the middle of her songs to get a towel, reapply makeup." Another blogger was palpably angrier about the performance, writing, "If her voice is shot, and she knows it, how dare she get up on stage and pretend it's not."

Houston's latest album, 'I Look to You,' was released last year and topped the Billboard 200 and other international charts. It marked Houston's return to music after several years of notorious, drug-related press. She finishes the Australian leg of her tour in Perth on March 7th, before heading to France and Britain in April for her 'Nothing but Love' tour.
