If you're going to attempt to extort money from a JPOP artist, superstar Ayumi Hamasaki is one that could definitely pay up. Unfortunately for one, rather stupid Japanese man, his plan to do just that failed, when he was arrested on Friday.Motoyoshi Fujii, the 42-year-old suspect, mailed a letter to Hamasaki's home in December. An Avex staff member read it first, and originally thought it was fan mail until it was noticed this same letter also asked that 500 million yen ($5.56 million USD) be deposited into a bank account, or else Avex president Max Matsuura's house would be burned down.
Fujii included his name and return address on the mail, so police had no trouble finding him. TokyoGraph says that police are investigating similar attempts that Fujii may be tied to.
