Teddy Yo (full name Tewodros Assefa), a rising Ethiopian Amharic-language rapper based in Addis Adeba, has a new video for his track 'Wereje Ale' from his new album, 'Dimts Albaw Mesariya' (Silent Weapon).
The rapper emerged out of his own self-created music style, Guragetone, an adaption of traditional Gurage melodic sense with modern r&b and hip hop sensibilities. Interestingly, as reported by DireTube, Assefa ties doo-rags and corn rows linearly to the dressing habits of Ethiopian's 19th century emperors.
Here's guessing the school girls in his latest video, which appeared on Friday at Ethionet, don't have quite the same historic resonances.
