Third World to Honor Jamaican Heroes on 'Patriots' Album

Third World Patriots AlbumAs we reported last week, Third World is embarking on their "35th" anniversary celebration, and to commemorate the milestone, the reggae ensemble will be releasing a new album, titled 'Patriots.' At their press conference in Montego Bay yesterday, the group gave more details on the album, which will apparently be structured as a sort of tribute to some of Jamaica's national heroes, including Marcus Garvey and Paul Bogle. As The Jamaica Gleaner reports, Third World's 22nd studio album will also feature appearances from Damian and Stephen Marley, as well as Tarrus Riley and Toots Hibbert.

As Stephen 'Cat' Coore said, "The Patriots album reflects messages that can be applied in today's society, so persons can expect to hear us address issues related to struggles, love, and motivation on this album." You can check out a few samples ahead of the release on the group's official website.

The reggae legends were originally planning on celebrating their 35 years together back in 2008, but Third World's alacrity for touring and their cramped recording schedule pushed things back a couple of years. Better late than never.
