Jimmy Cliff in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff may not exactly be synonymous with most people's conceptions of rock and roll, but speculation brewing across the web suggests that that may change very soon. As Jamaica's Gleaner News reports, many believe that Cliff is a front-runner to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland next year, despite the protests of many who don't think reggae should be mixed with rock. The music site DigitalDreamDoor claims that Cliff has a fairly reasonable chance to receive an invite to stand alongside Elvis and Hendrix in the museum, primarily because he "introduced reggae to Anglo audiences" back in the 1970s. Cliff is already the first reggae artist to be nominated for induction since Bob Marley, back in 1994. Though his musical and cultural pedigree is pretty much unassailable, he'll have some tough competition, including Summer, ABBA, and LL Cool J. Given the impact he's had through his hit albums and the seminal cult classic film 'The Harder They Come' (clip below), Jimmy Cliff's strong case makes the Hall's January announcement that much more intriguing.
