Halloween's just around the corner, and besides finding the requisite ingenious costume to wear, or the ghoulishly gorgeous date to wear on your arm, the perfect Halloween soundtrack is the final, crucial ingredient to making this year's celebration one to remember. Whether you're looking for that dark and mysterious playlist to send curdles down the spines of young trick-or-treaters knocking on your door, or trying to strike that elusive balance between scary and upbeat for your party this weekend, finding the right music to put you in a festively macabre mood is no easy task. Fortunately, we've gone ahead and found some super scary stations for your sampling pleasure, so you can spend less time trolling through your ipod, and more time trying to outdress the rest of the costumed competition at your office party. Here are the top five Halloween stations available in the SHOUTcast Radio Directory. To listen to these stations and more, find them in the Halloween Radio genre.
Top 5 Halloween Radio Stations
5) Welcome to Weirdsvile - The Silly Side of Halloween
Weird? Yeah. Silly? Sure. Unbelievably fun to listen to? Undoubtedly. You'll find lots of classic, 50's and 60's music here (which may or may not evoke old "Scooby Doo" episodes in the same way it did for us), as well as other totally trippy, ambient fare that would be the perfect bizarre background to your bone-chilling bash this weekend.
Again, variety seems to be the calling card at Big R Radio, with a lot of stuff that sounds like the kind of thing you'd hear in a horror movie, right as the innocent girl walks into the abandoned house at the top of the hill (Why does she ALWAYS do that??). Then before you know it, you're listening to a classic guitar riff, saving you from the jaws of terror that you were inches away from just minutes ago.
According to this station's slogan, this Halloween, they'll "make you scream!" Tune in for an eclectic selection of some old standards, alongside other, markedly more ominous music--perfect for a more laid-back, lighthearted shin-dig.
KeepFreeMusic.com has put together a seasonal slate of programming, featuring lots of tracks that, while not explicitly Halloween-oriented, definitely have that certain dash of mysterious or eerieness. You'll find lots of music spanning just about every decade since the 60s, so if you're looking for a nice little grab bag of variety, you might wanna check this station out.
Um.. so, yeah... The name pretty much says it all. It's definitely not the kind of thing you'd want to tune in to on a sunny, Spring day. Which means it's perfect. Most of the music sounds like the kind of thing that might be piped into enormous speakers and put on loop in a place like...well, Hell. Although we could see this being the perfect after-party station, when the face paint's started to melt, shoulders have started to droop, and everyone's sitting around, bleary-eyed and contemplating their own mortality.
